The Presentation and Assets Directorate focuses on delivering a clean and well presented,
functioning municipality. It includes all aspects of the city’s built and natural environment,
infrastructure and waste management. The Directorate is responsible for:
Asset planning and engineering, urban and landscape design
Constructing and maintaining roads, footpaths and drainage systems
Development, protection and maintenance of parks and the natural environment areas under
the City’s jurisdiction
Management of waste and recycling collection, landfill sites, transfer stations and street
Designing and delivering infrastructure, including Council owned buildings
Management of significant infrastructure projects
The Works unit is responsible for the construction of new and renewal projects, and maintenance
of civil infrastructure by the City of Greater Bendigo (the City).
The Civil Construction and Maintenance program is delivered by the Works unit and supports the
construction of the City's civil infrastructure including roads, bridges, drains and footpaths. The
Works unit is key in the delivering of high quality customer focused works and services that are
efficient, innovative and responsive to community needs.
The City’s mechanical workshop, which is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of the
Depot plant and equipment, also sits within the Works unit.

Undertake a range of tasks, including the inspection, programming, resource and subcontract
supervision related to infrastructure maintenance activities (usually within the road reserve),
civil construction works and associated activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Provide leadership, direction and encouragement to employees.
Responsible for the performance of employees.
Responsible for maintaining quality standards of the work performed.
In consultation with the co-ordinator, organise the supply of materials, equipment and staff and
any subcontractors to ensure the efficient progress of works.
Liaise with other authorities to ensure programs can be delivered.
Ensure that job costing for plant, labour, materials and subcontractors are correctly recorded.
Ensure that appropriate records are maintained in a timely fashion.
Consult with the Coordinator regarding staff performance and training requirements.
Accountable for effectiveness, cost and timeliness of maintenance programs.
Provide on the job training to plant & equipment operators to ensure plant is operated in a
competent, safe and efficient manner.
Ensure that employees carry out proper maintenance and servicing of plant, tools and
equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Inspection and Programming
Carry out appropriate inspections of road and associated assets and prepare works programs
Quality and Environment
Responsible for compliance with Quality and Environmental Management systems relevant to
the tasks performed.

SPECIALIST SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
Ability to provide training in plant & equipment operation, use of hand tools and OH&S
Extensive knowledge of, and skilled in applying the techniques and practices applicable to
infrastructure maintenance activities, civil construction activities and associated works.
Competently operated and provide training in a range of equipment including all or some of the
following - light to very heavy mechanical equipment and earthmoving equipment, backhoe,
front end loader, heavy truck, crane truck with safe working load greater than 10 meter-tonne,
rollers with or without vibration, asphalt truck, grader, fork lift, tractors and manually operated or
hand supported power equipment.
Performance of trade and non trade tasks.
Capable of working from a plan and setting out works.
Pipe laying to line and grade from a plan.
Demonstrated effective administrative skills and the operation of personal computers,
spreadsheets and other Microsoft applications.
Sound knowledge and skills in the application and the safe and efficient use of relevant
technology, plant and equipment.
Sound understanding of function of the position within the organisation including relevant
policies, regulations and precedents.
Require skills in managing time, setting priorities and planning and organising one’s own work

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Current Victorian driver’s licence, HR endorsement is required, HC endorsement would be
